Notes and Reactions: Nintendo E3 Press Conference
Nintendo’s Wii U finally took front stage this E3 as that is the ONLY thing Nintendo should be talking about after dropping the ball last year revealing just a controller. While the Wii U was talked about during the majority of the broadcast, they were able to sneak in some 3DS as well. Here are the notes we took during the event, or at least I did while I was watching the broadcast being I’m the one doing these things. Oh yeah..my notes…look at them and cry at how BAAAD they are!

Nintendo brought some games and showed some games and out of all of them, there was one big shock. Mass Effect 3 coming to Wii U, If I had a microphone right now I would drop it. That is a BIG game for a console that is touted to be more powerful than Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Mass Effect 3 has to be one of the most visually eye raping experiences for the current gen consoles and will possibly pack that same punch with possible improvements for Wii U. I’m excited to see how it runs and what it can do on the Wii U system. Other than that, going back to the TOP of the show when Pikmin 3 was announced for Wii U, it got a pretty good reaction from the crowd there, and I just kinda shrugged it off. I’m not a big fan of the game but I thought it look alright, I just don’t see myself picking it up if I got a Wii U.
After Pikmin 3, Reggie made his entrance and talked about…wait…something was missed. Oh yeah, Pikmin 3 was introduced by Shigeru Miyamoto. Okay back to the sentence I interrupted, Reggie mentioned in passing, YouTube, Netflix and Amazon Instant Video coming to Wii U. Nothing was mentioned about them launching with the Wii U, just that they would be the app will be available for Wii U. Which by my guess, they will hit the console anytime between 2 weeks to 1 month after launch. Also announced, Wii U will support up to two Wii U Game Pads (That’s what they called the tablets). I thought that was better than the earlier reports of it only supporting one at a time. I’m going to finish talking about this with 2 games that kept my attention during the press conference. Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition and Scribblenauts Unlimited. I played a little of Batman Arkham City on Xbox 360 and liked the game-play, however on Wii U there are features in the game that make use of that tablet controller. I was really interested in how that worked and them showing the remote controlled batarang sold me. Scribblenauts Unlimited on the other hand is a different story.
I’ve always watched other play the game and never got my hands on the game myself. To think, out of 2 years of working at GameStop, I would have had one chance to play it because someone traded it in right? Nope, but there’s hope with the Wii U and 3DS versions, at some point I will get my hands on these..wait…noo..we’ll continue with the I can’t wait to get my hands on the game part. Overall the Nintendo press conference was OKAY at best. I expected a lot more demos and a lot less talking within the hour they had to sell everyone, sure they showed Batman and a shot of Mass Effect 3 to keep the ooos coming, but no ah’s. No Shock and awe, and if there were more demos of the hardware, I think people would be talking about Nintendo a lot more. Instead, we’ll just remember that Reggie’s body was indeed ready, he said it himself, it was magical.
